TNS Third Annual Awards Banquet

Trout Nova Scotia Honours Volunteers at Annual Awards Dinner

Halifax, NS: June 4, 2007 – Trout Nova Scotia honoured seven volunteers and conservation officers from across the province at their Annual Awards Dinner and Silent Auction held on June 1 at the Windsor Park Curling Club in Halifax.
In its third year, the Awards Dinner honours Nova Scotia volunteers and conservation officers who protect our valuable trout waters through habitat restoration work, trout research and enforcement.

The 2007 award recipients include:
Darrell Brown, Wildlife Habitat Advocates ( Hants County), Brown Trout Award for superlative volunteer service for trout in Nova Scotia
Peter and Evelyn Alex, Habitat Unlimited Society ( Antigonish County), Brook Trout Award for commitment, dedication and outstanding contribution to the future of wild trout in Nova Scotia
Josh Hannay, Conservation Officer, Department of Natural Resources and Kevin Juteau, Conservation Officer, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Lake Trout Award for outstanding contribution to the conservation of wild trout in Nova Scotia
Joel Robinson, Habitat Chair, Lake O'Law Brook Habitat Restoration Project ( Inverness County), Special Recognition Award for his efforts in restoring habitat on Lake O'Law Brook
Charles MacInnis, Area Chief, Oceans and Habitat, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Special Recognition Award for his 21 years of service overseeing habitat projects in watersheds throughout Northern Nova Scotia

"Trout Nova Scotia recognizes the importance of honouring our volunteers who spend endless hours restoring habitat on our watersheds. Their efforts have resulted in bringing back a number of healthy wild trout populations to our rivers and streams," said Trout Nova Scotia President Lyle Goldberg. "It is also important to honour the hard work of our provincial and federal conservation officers. We believe their tenacity in apprehending and prosecuting trout poachers will serve as a deterrent to others who feel it is their inherent right to take more than their legal limit of fish," Goldberg said.

This year's dinner raised over $5000 to support projects that promote trout research and the protection of trout and trout habitat throughout Nova Scotia.
